Cleaning and disinfecting high touch surfaces are steps we should always be taking, but it is especially critical during COVID-19. As supplies can be scarce, here are some DIY cleaning recipes you can use as alternatives.

Homemade Hand Sanitizer

Ingredients

2/3 cup 99 percent rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)

1/3 cup aloe vera gel

8 to 10 drops essential oil, optional

 

Instructions

Mix all ingredients into a bowl and mix thoroughly with a spoon. Using a funnel, carefully pour the mixture into a bottle of your choice, screw the top of your bottle on tight, and begin use.

Homemade Lysol

Ingredients

1/2 cup 99 percent rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)

1 cup water

15 drops lavender essential oil

15 drops lemon essential oil

 

Instructions

Add ½ cup rubbing alcohol to a spray bottle. Then, add in a cup of water. Finally, add in 15 drops of lemon essential oils followed by 15 drops of lavender essential oil. Screw on the spray bottle and give a good shake. Shake before each use

Homemade Bleach Disinfectant Spray

Ingredients

4 teaspoons household bleach

1-quart water

 

Instructions

Pour both into one-quart spray bottle, shake vigorously. Spray on surface to disinfect, let sit for 10 minutes, wipe away with wet cloth.

Homemade All-Purpose Wipes

Ingredients

2 cups of warm water

1 tablespoon dish soap

1 roll of paper towels

1 cup 99 percent rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)

 

Instructions

Mix together water, soap, and alcohol. Place paper towels in a sealable container and pour mixture over paper towels. Cover container and then allow paper towels to soak up liquid. Use as desired.
