Does Your College Student Have the Right Auto Insurance?

Can you believe that your teen is already in college? They grow up so fast! Whether your child lives at school or commutes from home, it is important that you look into his or her auto insurance policy. Why? Because going away to college may mean a few things when it comes to coverage. Allow our agency to explain…

#1: Discounts. If your child keeps up with their grades, they will be eligible for a good student discount. So remind them to keep that GPA at 3.0 or higher.

#2: Cheaper. Your auto insurance policy may actually go down once your teen goes to college. Especially if your teen leaves their car at home—costs may be lowered because they won’t be driving it as much. This type of discount is known as low mileage.

#3: Location. It important to make sure that your auto insurance will actually cover your teen. If the college is miles and miles from home, you may need to find a new insurance policy that is closer to school. You wouldn’t want to find out that your coverage does not extend to another state once the time comes to file a claim.

There is no doubt that a change in your plan will happen once your teen is off the college. However, do not think for a second that you do not need auto insurance. Young drivers may think they do not need to cover a car if it is not being driven often. However, when your child comes home for holidays, we can assure you that they will want to drive—and accidents happen. At Nulty Insurance, we want to find the best policy for your situation. All you have to do is let us know.
